Julia Calfee is a multi-media artist, photographer, writer and animator who is at home around the world and with all types of people. Already in possession of a large network of professional contacts, she has the skills necessary to seek out new contacts and create rapport with her subjects. Her goal is to go beyond the obvious, to look beneath appearances so as to find a deeper experience, and get directly to a true representation of the stories she is covering.

Julia, in her commissioned work and assignments, portrays her work with original text, her photography and short multi-media films.

Her new project is on climatic change due to global warming, which she is broaching with an experimental, multidimensional and multi-media approach.

Calfee photographs the essence of people’s lives and environments, does her own writing, and is working on a series of short animated films about the people and places she has met. In addition, her legwork on the culture and people of a place yields images that convey a deeper reality of the subtext and undercurrents of a news story. Though many are "action shots," nothing is obtained by pure chance. She says of her portraits: "I seek to portray the inside of a person, going beyond appearances."

Currently based in New York, Zurich and Brussels, Calfee focuses on human conditions and commissioned portraiture in the context of environments. She is represented by Polaris Images.
