Framing the View in New YorkIn post-9/11 New York, there has been a trend toward leisure time spent in private spaces rather than with an anonymous, potentially risky public. As part of this, outdoor spaces have increasingly been incorporated into the domestic environment. A new crop of terrace gardens has sprung up for entertaining and daily enjoyment. All make use of hardy plants that will tolerate the harsh rooftop climate, and all not only make use of, but also frame and enhance, their city views. The architecture of the spaces has changed from the simple large terrace into sets of purpose-specific "rooms" such as dining, living and nursery.
Like the minimalist art found on the walls, the gardens have a deliberate restraint, avoiding floral flamboyance.
All terraces were design by the New York based architect Miguel Pons
